Emmanuel Benjamin, commonly known as Eben, the CEO of Hammer House Records, has signed a new artist, Umukoro Blessing, also known as Memerise, to the company.
This was revealed by Eben at a news conference held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
Eben stated that Hammer House Records teamed up with SG Production Gospel to sign Memerise.
Eben, a gospel preacher who rose to prominence after his first significant public appearance at a youth conference hosted by Pastor Chris, when “Imarama” was first heard, founded his record company Hammer House Records in 2010.
Speaking to press in Lagos about his latest signing, Eben revealed that Memerise is the first artist he has ever signed to his record company, indicating that more signings will follow. He stated, “I do not feel there is a need for competitiveness. Everyone adds something special. Memerise will compose music that is inspired by God. Competition is unnecessary because our differences make us all important. She’ll develop her own niche and stand apart.”
He went on to say, “She’s my first artist, and this is just the beginning.”
In response to the current incident between Mercy Chinwe and Nathaniel Bassey, he stated that society has deteriorated because people believe that freedom of expression allows them to say whatever they want without regard. He stressed the value of sensitivity in communicating, particularly on social media.
Umukoro Blessing, a recently uncovered singer and mother of five children, revealed that her debut record, “Oghene Oruru,” was released in 2007, and she has been singing in churches ever since. According to her, she conveyed her message through music, emphasizing God’s faithfulness and the power of His word in the hopes that the Grace of God would bring out the best in her. Blessing went on to say that the gospel music industry is fantastic, but it also demands focus.
Speaking in her previous album, Blessing added. “My first album, ‘Oghene Oruru,’ which means ‘Thank You, Lord’ in Urhobo, was inspired by God’s bounties in my life. I have five children, two of them are undergraduates. The name Memerise came to me as a vision, representing God’s promise that I will rise amid the many.
